I never considered myself as having a personal brand. Before typing my name into Google, I felt abit reluctant to know what information could be out there on the internet about me. Almost like, I was in denial! Perhaps, I had an idea of what was already out there as having social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter would make me feel more vulnerable (despite me locking my privacy settings to - KEEP OUT, UNLESS INVITED). And even then with the 'friends' and 'followers' I have on those networking site, how many of those can I really trust with information I post about my day to day life and feelings. Food for thought...
Anyway, so I thought Google would be a good place to start. To my amazement, I found myself on my OLD Myspace account as the second option down on the list. I clicked on it to see what information was available to see.To my satisfaction, no details were given about my location, nor education details. The only visable thing was a profile picture of when I was 18! And then realised how much I must have changed in appearance over the last few years.
Another interesting surprise was I also found my Facebook account on Google search. Now, I'm kinda annoyed here! Because my privacy settings are set so that people should not be able to search me by name. However, there I am, third option down! Grrrrr! I'm definantely displesed with this one. However, it's made me realise that now, I'm not confident about the security of walls post and status (not that I have anything to hide).
Okay, the most shocking of all? There was a link that I clicked on called '192.com' By the looks of it, it's almost like a 'Yellow pages' style site. Well here's what the intro says:
"192.com tells you more about people, businesses & places in the UK than any other directory. More than just directory enquiries, 192.com lists full names, addresses, age guides, property prices, aerial photos, company & director reports, family records, & much more!"
However, this site, somehow, has details of when I enrolled on the electoral roll to an old address that I used to live in back in 2010 AND states info on who I lived with! Now this how worried me. And quite franckly, I want to know where they've got this information from. This is the fifth option down on Google pages. Anybody who is searching for me can find out where I've been living for the past year! OMG.
Not having a very positive experience from this. In reflection, I always thought I was careful about the data on placed on the internet. But it seems that social networking site aren't solely to blame. I mean, I dont post my address on Facebook or Twitter
...Shocking!

CPD 23 Thingy Number 1 - Learning To Blog....
Drumroll please - welcome to my first EVER blog!
Da Daaaaaaaa...quite flashy eh?
I must admit I have never fancied the thought or idea of blogging. And in all honestly it never appealed to me. Shamefully, this could due to not 'having enough time' in my busy working day to commit to writing down my thoughts. But, there's a first for everything and today I embarked on a new challenge! Hopefully, this blogging business will grant the opportunity to become more open minded and adventurous.
Career wise, I'm young (only 22) and still trying to find my feet in the big wide world. At the moment, I'm working as a Learning Resources Mentor in a sixth-form education college. My role within the library is to support students on developing research skills by providing reliable and robust learning resources. Initially, working in a library was not a career path I intended to descend down. However, working with young people is something I greatly enjoy and attracted me to the position. In addition, I love research :0) and I thrive on passing on my knowledge of research methods onto others. Previous to this role, I was a student at the University of Central Lancashire studying Public Health.
Why have I enrolled in this CPD 23? I discovered CPD 23 through my manager. As soon as the word blog was mentioned I instantly wanted to say no. Generally, I like to give myself an aim or a reason for doing this. So, I want to explore online communities through ways of social media. Overall, I enjoy
being nosey and will look forward to reading other blogs. Hopefully, the CPD 23 will give me time to reflect properly as I enjoy learning from past experiences.
That's all I can think of to say.
